Costa Rican taxpayer lookup by ID number
Type a Costa Rican ID and you get whether that person or company is in good standing or in arrears with the tax authority, the exact name they are registered under — which is what goes on the document, verbatim — their regime and their economic activities.

You search by ID; what you need is the name
You already have the ID — your customer gave it to you. What you do not have, and what the document needs, is the name exactly as the tax authority has it registered for that ID: on an electronic document the recipient's name is not free text. If you write “Ferretería El Roble” and the register says “FERRETERIA EL ROBLE SOCIEDAD ANONIMA”, the document is issued, but the customer can reject it — and then the expense does not support them and you are left with a credit note to write. This tool gives you that name so you can copy it as it stands. What a rejection costs.
What else comes back
- The economic activity. Its code goes on every document you issue. Where there are several, the one marked as principal is used by default.
- The regime. A taxpayer in the simplified regime does not charge VAT the same way, and it is worth knowing before you invoice them. What that regime is.
- In arrears and non-filing. Two different things: in arrears means money is owed, non-filing means returns were not submitted. The tax authority publishes both — we do not infer them.
The name typed once, by the register
You enter the customer's ID and the name and the activity come in by themselves, in the form the tax authority requires — which is where rejections slip in.
